What does 4D-Energy do?

Your home will definitely need an Energy Survey and Assessment (EPC - Energy Performance Certificate) in order to carry out a sales transaction, in order to market the property for sale, to rent it out, or to get your plans through Building Control, or to make sure an extension passes the Regulations.

You may even need a full Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment rating, for planning or funding reasons.

All these products and more can be carried our quickly, professionally, and at great value. See Services and Fees for details of the range of standard services;

BUT THERE IS MUCH MORE AVAILABLE...
Even if you are not wanting to sell or rent or build a home - and whether you own one home or many thousands, you may not realise how best to use energy and other resources most efficiently in the home environment.

Maybe you are considering what refurbishment will give you the best energy savings; or perhaps even putting together a bid for some funds to carry out an innovative project;

4D-Energy has the experience and expertise to help on any scale.

4D-Energy will provide help - giving tailored practical advice for just one home, or for many. And at great value. Call to find out how.

Why 4D-Energy?

4D-Energy has expertise across the whole environmental and sustainability spectrum; water, waste, ecology, domestic appliances - you name it.

We have research that will tell you which kitchen gadget will cost you the most; what type of TV is best; why some insulation may actually be dangerous to install. Everything about how people live and use their home - and particularly how that home needs to be looked after and maintained. (See credentials for some examples)

So, "4D-Energy" could just as easily be called "4D- Sustainability" or "Green Living" or suchlike. But the main thing we all need to pay attention to is the use of energy, whether

  • because of worries about carbon dioxide emissions;
  • because fossils fuels are fast running out:
  • because supplies are no longer secure since North Sea Gas has been used up;
  • because energy costs are rising becoming more and more unaffordable:
  • because the law is tightening up all the time on what you must do;

in all these scenarios the common factor is that we all must use energy in our homes and households more efficiently in the future. And this is where 4D-Energy has skills and experience to offer.

Energy Efficiency - what does that involve?

What 4D-Energy looks at is not only the usual suspects - heating and hot water and lighting; but also the use of appliances in and outside the home. Advice and practical help is on offer - for example -

  • Don't bother with a hot fill on your washing machine, unless you have planned out the most effective route for the plumbing first. And the extra water usage often negates any minimal energy saving made.
  • Don't install a Heat Recovery unit in the loft - whatever salesmen may tell you - unless you are sure your home is virtually air-tight to start with; and especially unless you are able to go up into the loft to monitor it every week, change its filters every few months, and clean all the moving parts every year or two.

These free tips are amongst the thousands of pieces of advice that 4D-Energy can provide - on a new-build design, a renovation, or in a general improvement.

Phone advice, on-site inspections, measured surveys, whole house eco-audits,  ongoing POEs (post-occupancy evaluations)  there are so many of ways of supporting you as a landlord or householder. See here for more details.

Thinking of New Build/Self-Build/Renovation?

Many people do not realise that the Building Regulations are very strict now, and you have to get an accredited assessor like 4D-Energy to calculate the carbon emissions for what you are proposing (and again when it is completed) to get it past the Building Inspector. Even just re-pointing a wall, or hacking some plaster off!

Building Control Compliance

4D-Energy can ensure informed liaison takes place between architects, service engineers, builders, building control officers - and of course 4D-Energy will provide the PEA (Predicted Energy Assessment; final EPC (Energy Performance Certificate); and the Part L1 independent Checklist sign-off that Building Control require.

The rules on works to existing buildings are even more of a trap for the unwary - e.g. re-pointing more than a quarter of a wall means you must then insulate it! Get 4D-Energy to advise you before you start work and you will be helped to find the most cost-effective route through the minefield of regulations.

(Very few Energy Surveyors have had the specialist training for Part L1B (renovation) work - 4D-Energy's founder is one - see credentials page;  and he has written a briefing for others in the field - see here for details)

Confused.com???

Or at the other end of the scale, if you're an existing occupier that just wants to do their bit, and save some carbon and/or some fuel cost, but are confused by all the technical suggestions floating around, and want some help prioritising what to do; again 4D-Energy can give simple and clear advice -

  • how best to set your heating programmer;
  • what fuel to use in your open fire/stove (and there are some real differences);
  • which appliances may be worth changing now, or leave until they reach their natural end.

No job is too small - (or big); whether you want to save the planet - or save yourelf some money - we can give you practical help on how to do both...
